Evelene was raised on a farm by her parents, Mr. Ollie Brumfield and Mrs Genita
Brumfield plus 10 additional children. Evelene and her siblings daily chores was
to work in the family field. One year Evelene's father grew too many tomatoes,
and At the age of 17 Evelene began experimenting and coming up with a variety of
ways to eat tomatoes.
Soon after her concocting, Evelene discovered a tomato
syrup that satisfied her taste buds, and decided to share it, by making batches
of it for family and friends. Evelene often gives "thanks to her parents for the
tomatoes they raised, for because of them Mississippi Tomato Syrup was born.
Now, Evelene has built a successful business with her unique tomato syrup
recipe. Evelene's husband, Jimmy supports her creative endeavor, and frequently
assists with the Mississippi Tomato syrup process.
Currently Evelene sets up
Her Mississippi Tomato Syrup display on Tuesday's and Thursday's at the Biloxi
Farmers Market, and on Saturday's at the Pass Christian market in MS.
